Opening in limited release this Friday, May 25th is Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Set in the 1960s, a pair of young lovers (Kara Hayward, Jared Gilman) flee their New England island town, prompting a local search party led by the Sheriff (Bruce Willis) and the girl’s parents (Bill Murray, Frances McDormand) to fan out to find them.

In addition to the cast members listed above, it also stars Edward Norton (one of my all-time favs) and indie film veteran Jason Schwartzman (also awesome). This is going to be good if you’ve enjoyed some of Anderson’s more recent films like ‘The Life Aquatic’ and ‘The Royal Tanembaums.’ It’s also guaranteed to have a kick @$$ soundtrack. Just saying.

I love Diptic and I’ve been using the app on my iPhone for some time now. It’s really intuitive actually and it can help put all of your photos from one event together in a really cool story-like way. For those that don’t know, here’s what Diptic isn’t:

It’s NOT an app that’s meant to replace Instagram or your iPhone’s in-built camera app. It’s meant to compliment it.

It’s NOT just for hipsters. It’s for everyone. Put any images you take together in series of two, three, five, etc. Fancy filters need not be present in your images to do so.

It’s NOT another social media picture sharing app. Again, it’s just meant to help you sequence your images to help tell a little story with them.

Here’s a sequence I put together a couple of months ago to showcase a spring outfit of mine:

Anyway, they have a contest running right now that is definitely worth telling you about. Here’s the official word from Diptic:

We’re running our first official Diptic contest! The theme is “Tell the Story,” so we’re looking for entries that use Diptic to tell a story. Whether it’s your child learning how to ride a bike, the seasons changing or something funny that happened last night, we want to see how you use Diptic to tell a story with your photos.

To enter, post your submissions to Twitter with the hashtag #DipticTellTheStory. Or, you can email them to us at contest@dipticapp.com.

We’ll post submissions here so everyone can see them. After the contest closes, the Diptic Team will review all entries and announce the winner on June 11, 2012.

Time frame:
Contest Begins: May 10, 2012 at 7 a.m. PST
Contest Ends: June 4, 2012 at 12 a.m. PST

Our judging will be based on:
Creativity, aesthetics, and best interpretation of the theme “Tell the Story.”

Prize:
The prize for this contest will be an OlloClip, the fisheye, wide-angle and macro lens for the iPhone that fits in your pocket!

Additional details:

Diptics submitted should have at least 2 frames

Maximum of 5 entries per person, per contest

App stacking is okay, but it needs to be clear and obvious that Diptic was used in each entry

By entering, you agree that you agree to the contest Terms & Conditions.

If you have any questions, ask @dipticapp on Twitter or email contest@dipticapp.com. Good luck!

Nick Wooster is JCPenny’s most recent power play at attempting to revive the once iconic retailer’s now stale image. Fans of the tattooed and mustachioed Wooster should be excited to know that he’s been named as the new Creative Director of Men’s Clothing. Wooster previously held fashion director title at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus and has done consulting for the likes of THom Browne, Mac Cosmetics, Chaiken Clothing and Gilt Groupe. This comes at a time when JCPenny is in the midst of a major rebrand with a new logo, new internal store designs and a couple of key executive hires from Apple.

It’s exciting to think of JCPenny being relevant again, don’t you think? If Wooster is able to lead out his vision for menswear at Penny’s, I can tell you that I’ll be there to be his clothes.

Julian Marshall was staring at his OBEY poster that Shepard Fairey had given him one morning and thought to himself: “Why hasn’t anyone written a movie about the Shepard Fairey-Buddy Cianci billboard incident in 1990?” Apparently it was this incident that would help elevated Shepard Fairey’s status to new levels among the street artist culture at the time.

The trailer below for the film also doubles as a solicitation of $30,000 via Kickstarter to help them finish the film. Enjoy.

UK furniture maker Sebastian Cox is very interested in environmental sustainability. He grew up in the countryside and developed a passion for working with wood early on in his childhood. “Timber is a very engaging material because wood will always do what it wants to do,” says Cox.

Coppiced hazel plants are capable of growing nearly five feet tall in a single season. According to him, one can have an inexhaustible supply of resources for production if it’s cultivated properly. This short film explores his work with the Coppiced Hazel Woodlands and gives you a look into how he sources his timber.

Finally a pair of sneakers with a classic silhouette that aren’t Vans, Sperry’s or Converse! I’ve recently been looking for a more sophisticated sneaker, one with a certain style and history to it. Don’t get me wrong, I love the three shoe makers I just mentioned, but you can only have so many skate/boat shoes before you’re style starts to get – dare I say – old.

The Billy Reid K-Swiss shoe came out last Spring but I wasn’t much of a fan because it was only made in canvas. This month though, J. Crew will release the same shoe in a brown suede at a $95 price point. Yes, please.

Official K-Swiss announcement: “Following the success of the Billy Reid for K-Swiss collaboration that launched in Spring 2011, they have added a new spin to the collection. The Venice Surf & Court will be launching a new colorway, tan suede and will be available this month on www.jcrew.comand select J Crew stores across the country.”

Originally launched in the 80s, Scotch & Soda re-launched in 2002 with three new owners and added a Scotch Shrunk line for kids later on in 2008. Having recently launched a full women’s line in 2010 they now truly offer clothing for everyone. Below are a couple of favorite picks of mine.

I was on my first pair somewhere between 4-5 years old. I loved it. I loved powering down the hill, usually with my younger brother where we tried to be 80s Hot Doggers, trying to embody movies like Hot Dog and Better off Dead. Remember those movies? Even then I was trying to push the envelope of “cool” on the ski slopes (embarassing now to recall) with jeans, a bandana and sunglasses with Croakies. Can you imagine? Skiing in jeans! Those were much more innocent times, until snowboarding came.

I became completely obsessed with snowboarding. Working in skate and snowboard shops to get me through college gave me access to some of the best resorts in California with discounted all-day lift tickets at $5-$10 a pop. Somewhere in it all though, I stopped chasing snowboarding. I think a lot of me developed a disdain for it as I watched it become by burnouts with no ambition. They ruined it for me. Dare a judge? Yes, for this post please allow me to.

Anyway, I got on a pair of skis over the weekend with my buddy Satch and had a blast! I’m definitely going to try to ski more often. While I don’t have any pics or videos of us killing it at Steven’s Pass on Saturday, I do have this artsy fartsy Instagram photo of the pair of Pocket Rockets I had borrowed.

My son had two big milestones this weekend. One, he had his haircut for the first time after two and a half years. The other not so exciting thing (for him) was that we bought him a little plastic toilet. To show you just how significant his haircut was and the impetus for finally taking him to the children’s salon, you’ll just have to stare at his “before” photo here in this post. I mean, he had a giant blonde fro!

I can’t tell you how proud I was of him yesterday. His fro was his signature look but it had to be trimmed. He didn’t kick and scream – he just stayed put in the yellow race car that served as the barber seat. Lindsey was definitely a lot more anxious than I was. Doesn’t he look good?!
